Denver is in for a hot and mostly sunny Saturday with a high near 92°F — but the afternoon brings a real two-story forecast: storm risk on the plains and critical fire conditions in the mountains. Grab a cooling neck towel, some lip balm SPF moisturizing protection, and sunscreen before heading out, and keep one eye on the radar after 3 PM MT.
Today’s Setup
A shortwave pushing east is flattening the ridge that’s dominated Denver’s weather all week. Mornings will be partly sunny with temps climbing fast through the 70s and 80s. The metro reaches near 92°F before falling back to around 89°F by late afternoon as NNW winds build to 2–12 mph with gusts near 18 mph. Overnight drops back to a pleasant 59–61°F.
Fire Weather Warning
This is a serious day in the high country. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the mountains and high valleys from 11 AM to 9 PM MT. Westerly gusts up to 40–45 mph combined with relative humidity plummeting to 9–15% create critical fire conditions. If you’re camping or hiking in the foothills or high terrain today, skip any open flames, know your evacuation route, and follow any orders from local emergency management immediately.
Best Window To Be Outside
Your golden window is before 3 PM. Washington Park, City Park, and the Cherry Creek Trail will be glorious through midday. After 3 PM, a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms (20% chance) develops as storms fire east of the Denver metro. The eastern plains — including Aurora and Stapleton — could see strong to severe storms. Keep the radar app handy.
Tonight’s Events: Red Rocks and the Buell
Heading to O.A.R. w/ Gavin DeGraw at Red Rocks Amphitheatre tonight? The evening outlook improves after sunset — mostly clear skies, a low near 60°F, and WNW winds gusting to 21 mph. Bring a layer; Red Rocks gets breezy after dark. Still need seats? Find tickets on StubHub. Prefer to stay indoors? The Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Touring) is playing at Buell Theatre tonight — a perfect weather-proof alternative.
Rockies Game Day: Sunday, June 21
Sunday looks nearly identical — sunny and near 91°F with another slim storm chance after 1 PM. The Colorado Rockies host the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field on Sunday, June 21. First-pitch conditions should be sunny and warm, but have a shelter plan if afternoon clouds build. Get tickets on SeatGeek, and show up ready to root in a Colorado Rockies jersey or a Colorado Rockies fitted cap.
Dinner Tonight
On a 92-degree day you don’t want to heat up the whole kitchen — pasta primavera with seasonal vegetables is light, fast, and satisfying. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and get everything delivered in time for dinner. A picnic basket set for 4 also works perfectly for a morning spread in Cheesman Park before any afternoon storms roll through.
Next Few Days
Expect mid-to-upper 80s with scattered afternoon and evening storm chances through most of next week — classic early-summer Denver rhythm. Weird Al Yankovic plays Red Rocks on June 23 — keep tabs on the extended Denver weather forecast as that date approaches. The mountains face elevated fire weather conditions most of next week as well, so the dry pattern isn’t going away anytime soon.
