Denver is waking up to clear skies and sunshine on Friday, June 5, with temperatures climbing to near 90°F — get outside early, but keep one eye on the southern suburbs where isolated late-day storms could develop by early evening.

Today’s Setup

A weak cool front slipped through overnight, but the National Weather Service says it’s shallow enough that the Mile High City barely notices. Expect sunny skies all morning with a 90°F afternoon high and light east winds of 3 to 8 mph. The Palmer Divide and foothills are the primary targets for any afternoon convection. If a storm fires and drifts east, the southern metro — think Highlands Ranch and Lone Tree — could see gusty outflow winds by early evening. Actual rain reaching central Denver looks unlikely, but south-side residents should watch radar after 4 PM MT.

Best Window to Be Outside

Morning through early afternoon is your sweet spot. Washington Park, Sloan’s Lake, and Cherry Creek Reservoir will be comfortable and beautiful well before the heat peaks. A hammock with stand under a cottonwood is about as good as it gets.

If you’re heading to Coors Field tonight for the Colorado Rockies vs. Milwaukee Brewers (June 5), conditions look warm but very manageable. Gear up in your Colorado Rockies jersey and Colorado Rockies fitted cap, and toss a rolling cooler with wheels in the truck for tailgating along Blake Street.

Brit Floyd is performing “Dark Side of the Moon” at Red Rocks Amphitheatre tonight — the foothills are where afternoon storms could develop, but they should clear before showtime. Bring a light layer; Red Rocks cools fast after sunset. Still need seats? Get tickets on SeatGeek.

Weekend Heat Risk

Saturday jumps to near 95°F with south winds gusting to 22 mph — serious early-summer heat even by Denver standards. The Rockies host the Brewers again at Coors Field on June 6 and June 7; afternoon games in that heat demand full sun protection and plenty of water.

Also Saturday: Mumford & Sons plays Folsom Field Stadium (June 6) — an outdoor stadium in 95°F heat means arrive early and claim your shade. Find tickets on StubHub if you still need them.

Joe Jackson brings the Hope and Fury Tour 2026 to the Paramount Theatre on June 6 — a welcome indoor option. Grab a Joe Jackson t-shirt for the show. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opens at the Buell Theatre on June 6 as well, another smart indoor escape from the heat.

Beat the Heat at Home

Blackout curtains make a real difference keeping bedrooms livable through a heat stretch like this one. For early-evening outdoor time tonight, a picnic basket set for 4 is all you need for a backyard spread before tomorrow’s heat ramps up.

The National Weather Service is also watching a potential early-season heat wave arriving Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, with highs near 100°F possible across the Denver area and plains — plan ahead.

Dinner Tonight

In near-90°F heat, keep the kitchen cool. A light pasta primavera or a quick veggie stir-fry comes together fast without heating up the house. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Saturday: 95°F, mostly sunny, gusts to 22 mph. Sunday brings more summer-like heat. The big story is next week’s possible heat wave — Tuesday and Wednesday could challenge record highs across the Front Range. Stay current with your Denver weather forecast and check outdoor gear deals now before the hottest stretch of the year arrives.
