Dallas–Fort Worth kicks off Wednesday, May 27 mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high near 82°F — but the National Weather Service says most of the Metroplex will likely stay dry, so don’t cancel your plans just yet.
Today’s Setup
An overnight storm complex rolled east of the area, spinning up an MCV (mesoscale convective vortex) that’s now tracking north into Oklahoma faster than originally expected. NWS forecasters in Fort Worth say that shift is driving subsidence over much of North and Central Texas, suppressing afternoon thunderstorm development. They’ve trimmed rain chances by 10–30% from earlier projections. A few isolated showers or storms can still fire — particularly east of the I-35 corridor — but widespread activity looks unlikely. South wind runs around 5 mph with gusts to 20 mph, and temperatures ease back toward 80°F by afternoon.
Best Window To Be Outside
If you’re planning a walk at White Rock Lake, a lunch break at Klyde Warren Park, or a run along the Trinity Trails, aim for mid-morning — roughly 10 AM to noon CT. That window offers the lowest storm odds before activity can redevelop later in the day. Keep a radar app handy either way.
Rain and Storm Risk
The Weather Prediction Center flagged an overnight storm complex that pushed through the I-35 corridor, leaving soils saturated. If storms do develop, isolated flash flooding is possible near low-water crossings along Bachman Creek and flood-prone underpasses on Stemmons Freeway. New rainfall of a half to three-quarters of an inch is possible where storms fire. Never drive through flooded roads — DFW flash flooding moves fast.
Rangers Homestand: Thursday’s Game
Good news for baseball fans: the Texas Rangers host the Houston Astros on Thursday, May 28 at Globe Life Field under a much friendlier forecast — mostly sunny, high near 87°F, 30% storm chance. Globe Life Field’s retractable roof provides backup, but it should be a solid night for the Lone Star Series rivalry. Gear up with a Texas Rangers jersey or Texas Rangers fitted cap before heading to Arlington. Still need seats? Find tickets on StubHub or Get tickets on SeatGeek.
Also on the weekend radar: the The Kid LAROI - A Perfect World Tour comes to The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory on Friday, May 29 — the drier air moving in makes for a much better outdoor-venue night.
Rainy-Day Dinner Idea
A stormy Wednesday is made for slow-cooker chili. Load a programmable slow cooker in the morning and dinner’s waiting for you at 6 PM. Or go old-school with an enameled cast iron Dutch oven for a hearty beef stew on the stovetop — either way, your kitchen wins. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
- Thursday (May 28): Mostly sunny, high near 87°F, 30% storm chance — warmer and more manageable
- Friday–Saturday: A welcome lull. Highs approach 90°F with rain chances generally below 30% — the best outdoor window of the week for the patio, the golf course, or a Rangers game
- Sunday onward: Another uptick in daily storm chances as a new system approaches. Stay ahead of it with the latest Dallas–Fort Worth weather forecast
With the humidity lingering after all this rain, a dehumidifier for home can make indoor air noticeably more comfortable through the week. And if the dry stretch motivates some outdoor projects, browse outdoor gear deals before the weekend.
