Dallas-Fort Worth is under an Extreme Heat Warning today as highs climb near 104°F with heat index values as high as 115°F, according to the National Weather Service — save strenuous outdoor plans for early morning or after sunset, drink water constantly, and check on elderly neighbors, kids, and pets who can’t escape the heat.

Today’s Setup

A strong upper-level ridge is locked over North Texas, and the NWS Fort Worth office says most of the metro won’t feel any real relief today. A weak backdoor cold front pushes westward this afternoon and evening, shifting winds out of the north-northeast, but only far northeastern counties near the Sherman corridor see highs ease to 99-101°F. Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, and points south and west stay in the 100-105°F range with humidity pushing heat index readings well above that. Tonight stays hot too — a low around 80°F that actually rises to near 82°F overnight, with heat index values still up to 111°F. Forecasters gave a low-confidence 10% chance of an isolated storm sliding through Central Texas into western North Texas, but say there’s a good chance the whole region stays dry.

Best Window To Be Outside

Mornings before 9 AM CT are your best bet for a Trinity Trail run, a walk around White Rock Lake, or mowing the lawn before the sun takes over. If you’re set on golfing at a course like Cedar Crest, aim for the last tee times before sunset when temps start sliding back toward the 90s.

Heat Risk & Safety

The Heat Advisory and Extreme Heat Warning remain unchanged for this afternoon, per the NWS. Limit time outside during peak hours (roughly 2-7 PM CT), wear light clothing, and keep sunscreen and water handy. Pool and lake days are the move — men’s sport sandals, a women’s swimsuit or quick dry swim trunks, and an insulated tumbler 30oz to keep drinks cold all afternoon are worth having on hand. If you want to float instead of swim, the 2-Person Intex Floating Lounge with Cooler is a solid heat-day pickup.

Gameday, Concerts & Gear

The Texas Rangers host the Chicago White Sox tonight at Globe Life Field — the retractable roof means gameday comfort even in this heat, so it’s a good night to wear a Texas Rangers jersey or Texas Rangers fitted cap. Grab tickets on SeatGeek or find tickets on StubHub before first pitch. Hamilton also opens tonight at Bass Performance Hall — an easy indoor, air-conditioned option. Friday brings Grupo Frontera to American Airlines Center; pick up a Grupo Frontera t-shirt and tickets on StubHub if you’re headed downtown.

Dinner Tonight & What’s Ahead

With heat like this, skip the stove. A cold Thai noodle salad, a build-your-own wrap bar, or smoothie bowls made in a high-powered blender are smart, no-sweat dinner options — pour them into that insulated tumbler for a cool treat later. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door. Looking ahead, Thursday backs off slightly to a high near 99°F, then Friday climbs back to around 100°F. The NWS says heat concerns and headlines are likely to continue through the rest of the week, so keep the hydration habit going.

Upcoming Home Games

Plan around the forecast — grab tickets, gear up, and see kickoff conditions.
