Dallas–Fort Worth is waking up to a warm, stormy Sunday with a high near 89°F and a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms building through the afternoon — if you have outdoor plans today, keep one eye on the radar and know your timing before you head out.
Today’s Setup
A cluster of thunderstorms is pushing south across the Red River this morning. The National Weather Service Fort Worth office expects that activity to reach the Metroplex in the mid-to-late morning hours, bringing lightning, gusty winds up to 30–40 mph, and brief heavy downpours. By early afternoon, storms may become less organized south of the I-20 corridor — but a more widespread round is expected to fire late in the day and into Sunday night, when rain chances climb to 73% with a quarter to half inch of rain possible.
The Weather Prediction Center has flagged the Southern Plains for a Slight Risk of Excessive Rainfall today. With atmospheric moisture levels near 2 inches of precipitable water, localized flash flooding is possible wherever cells merge or stall — watch underpasses along I-30 and low-water crossings in Grand Prairie, Oak Cliff, and Irving.
If You’re Heading Out Today
The World Cup Group F match — Netherlands vs. Japan — is today at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The stadium is covered, so the match itself is sheltered, but storms will likely be active before and after the final whistle. Leave early, bring a poncho, and watch radar before walking back to the parking lots. Need seats? Find tickets on StubHub or Get tickets on SeatGeek. Prefer something indoors tonight? Wicked is playing at Music Hall at Fair Park — a solid storm-night plan for the family.
Rain and Flood Risk
Flash flooding is the main concern today. Turn around, don’t drown — especially on low-water crossings throughout the region. Winds gusting between 30–40 mph can damage loose patio furniture and outdoor décor, so secure anything on your deck before storms arrive.
Best Window To Be Outside
The best outdoor window is early morning, before 9 AM CT, ahead of the first storm cluster. Golfers eyeing a quick round should check radar closely — a pair of golf shoes men waterproof will help on damp fairways during any morning lull. But don’t linger: storms will close in fast.
Grill or Stay In
If you catch a dry break, it’s warm enough to grill. Fire up a propane gas grill for burgers or grilled chicken — use an instant-read meat thermometer for perfect doneness every time. You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Monday still carries a 71% storm chance with a high near 82°F as the front slowly pushes through. Things gradually settle mid-week — just in time for the Texas Rangers to host the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday, June 16 and Wednesday, June 17 at Globe Life Field. Stay tuned for game-day forecasts and grab a Texas Rangers jersey or Texas Rangers fitted cap before you head to Arlington. On June 17, the Khalid: It’s Always Summer Somewhere Tour also comes to The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory — an outdoor venue, so keep an eye on that forecast as the week develops.
