Dallas–Fort Worth is kicking off this Sunday with mostly sunny skies and a high near 92°F — but Gulf moisture surging in from the south will push the heat index close to 103°F by afternoon. If you’re heading outside today, move early and move smart.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service says south-southwest winds will sustain 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph through the afternoon, with overnight gusts reaching 30 mph. That breezy flow is dragging dewpoints into the upper 70s to near 80°F across Southeast DFW. Most of the Metroplex should stay just below Heat Advisory criteria, though a handful of locations could briefly touch 105°F. North Texas, welcome to summer.

Best Window To Be Outside

Wrap up your yardwork, a Katy Trail jog, or a round at Tenison Park by 10 AM CT. The heat index climbs fast after that. Tonight’s Texas Rangers vs. San Diego Padres game at Globe Life Field (June 21) will be warm — bring cold drinks and sport a Texas Rangers jersey to show out for the home crowd.

Also tonight at Dickies Arena: the Louis Tomlinson – How Did We Get Here? World Tour. It’s indoors, so no heat worries — but give yourself extra parking time since the walk from the lot will feel rough in this heat.

Rain, Wind, and Fire Risk

Today’s rain chance is concentrated east of I-35 — the National Weather Service puts a 20–30% chance of showery activity across that corridor through late afternoon, with thunder expected to be scarce or absent. Central DFW stays mostly dry. Monday (June 22) ups the ante: a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms from 7 AM to 4 PM CT, a heat index near 109°F, and the potential for locally heavy rainfall and flooding through the week.

Hot temperatures, gusty south winds, and lower humidity in parts of the Metroplex mean elevated fire danger this weekend. Make sure your home is ready — a fire extinguisher home, a smoke detector combo pack checked and in working order, and a fire blanket kitchen nearby if you’re grilling this Father’s Day weekend are all smart precautions right now.

What To Wear or Bring

Light and loose is the only dress code today. Quick dry swim trunks are ideal if you’re cooling off at a local splash pad or neighborhood pool. Secure patio furniture and anything lightweight with a ratchet tie down strap kit — overnight gusts to 30 mph are no joke.

Events This Week

AT&T Stadium in Arlington hosts World Cup Argentina vs. Austria (Match 43, Group J) on Monday, June 22 — expect a high near 96°F and a dangerous 109°F heat index, so hydrate before you even leave the house. Then Tuesday, June 23 brings Shakira – Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour to American Airlines Center and 5 Seconds of Summer: EVERYONE’S A STAR! World Tour to Dickies Arena. Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub.

Dinner Tonight

Skip the stove entirely — tonight is cold Thai noodle salad or smoothie bowl weather. Fire up the high-powered blender and make something icy. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything delivered straight to your door.

Next Few Days

The heat doesn’t relent. Monday tops near 96°F with a 109°F heat index and a 20% storm chance. The National Weather Service is flagging daily thunderstorm chances and potential for locally heavy rainfall and flooding through the week. Stay current with your Dallas–Fort Worth weather forecast for day-by-day updates, and check outdoor gear deals to stay ready for whatever this summer throws at you.
