Dallas–Fort Worth is waking up to active thunderstorms this Sunday morning with a Flood Watch in effect across much of North Texas and a high near 89°F expected this afternoon — hold off on outdoor plans until at least early afternoon and keep the Dallas weather forecast up for radar updates.

Today’s Setup

A slow-moving upper low is pulling near-record Gulf moisture into the region — atmospheric water vapor values near 2 inches, which is essentially tropical-level fuel. The National Weather Service warns rainfall rates of 2–3 inches per hour are possible, with localized totals of 6–8 inches in the hardest-hit spots. Forecasters are watching the I-20 corridor and areas near and west of I-35 most closely. Cells are training southwest to northeast, meaning the same neighborhood can take repeated hits. The heaviest rain runs overnight through sunrise; new storm development remains possible north of I-20 through mid-morning.

Flash Flood Safety

Treat any rising water seriously today. The Trinity River bottoms, Fort Worth’s west-side low-water crossings, and flood-prone underpasses along I-30 are all vulnerable spots this morning. If water covers the road: turn around, don’t drown — a foot of moving water can sweep a vehicle away. It’s also smart to prep for possible outages. The DARAN 288Wh Power Station for just $90 for Prime Members can keep your phone and essential gear running if the grid flickers.

Best Window To Be Outside

Storm chances drop sharply after 4 PM CT. Sunday night turns partly cloudy with a low around 77°F — still muggy, with a heat index near 99°F and south winds 10–15 mph gusting to 25 mph. Late afternoon is your safest window for any outdoor activity today.

Rangers Game at Globe Life Field

The Texas Rangers host the Cleveland Guardians today at Globe Life Field. With storms in the forecast through mid-morning, check for weather-related delay announcements before you head out. If you’re going to the game, tuck a compact travel umbrella in your bag and show your colors in a Texas Rangers jersey or Texas Rangers fitted cap.

What To Wear

A packable rain jacket handles the wet morning well. Browse outdoor gear deals for more options as DFW heads into this stormy stretch.

Coming Up This Week

The storms exit and the heat takes over. Monday reaches 92°F with a heat index as high as 103°F — and the National Weather Service says that 100°F-plus heat index pattern holds all week. On the events calendar: Luke Bryan’s Word On The Street Tour plays Dickies Arena on June 11, the Charlie Puth Whatever’s Clever! World Tour hits The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory on June 12, and Don Toliver’s Octane Tour takes over American Airlines Center on June 13 — grab a Don Toliver t-shirt and Find tickets on StubHub before they’re gone. The 2026 FIFA World Cup also brings Netherlands vs. Japan (Group F, Match 11) to AT&T Stadium on June 14.

Rainy Day Dinner Idea

Today was made for slow cooker chili. Get it going in your programmable slow cooker before mid-morning and dinner is basically handled by kickoff. An enameled cast iron Dutch oven is equally great for a big pot of beef stew or Sunday soup on a gray afternoon. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
