Dallas–Fort Worth is starting Saturday under active storm conditions, with a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms through the day and a high near 84°F — check the radar before heading out and have a backup plan ready.
Today’s Setup
A line of thunderstorms tracked east through North and Central Texas overnight, with the National Weather Service noting the highest coverage along and just south of the I-20 corridor through roughly 1–3 AM CT. Gusty winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall were the main hazards. That unsettled pattern continues Saturday with scattered storms likely into the afternoon.
The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk of Excessive Rainfall for much of eastern Texas today. Flash flooding is a real threat at DFW’s usual hot spots — underpasses along I-635, creek crossings, and the Trinity River bottoms can fill fast. Never drive through a flooded roadway.
Best Window To Be Outside
Mid-morning offers the best dry window before additional storms fire up. Sunday is the clear winner for outdoor plans — just a 24% rain chance and a high near 83°F. Consider shifting walks at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden or runs along Katy Trail to then.
Events Tonight: Outdoor Venues on Storm Watch
Two big shows tonight are at outdoor amphitheaters: Pitbull – I’m Back with special guest Lil Jon at Dos Equis Pavilion and The HU and Apocalyptica with Special Guest The Rasmus at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory. Bring a rain layer and verify venue weather policies before heading out. Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub. Wicked (Touring) at Music Hall at Fair Park is an excellent fully indoor option if the radar looks threatening.
Sunday’s MGK: Lost Americana Tour at Dos Equis Pavilion lands on the better weather day — a much safer bet for an outdoor amphitheater show. On Monday, May 25, the Texas Rangers host the Houston Astros at Globe Life Field to kick off the holiday weekend. Grab a Texas Rangers jersey and make it a Lone Star Series outing.
Rainy Day Comfort Food
Stormy Saturday calls for slow cooking. Set a programmable slow cooker with chili or beef stew going before noon and dinner handles itself. An enameled cast iron Dutch oven works just as well for a thick stovetop soup. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything delivered to your door. Keeping kids busy? Grab some kids rain boots for tomorrow’s puddle-jumping and a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle to get through the afternoon storm hours.
Next Few Days
- Saturday night: Chance of storms before 4 AM CT, then quieting
