Dallas-Fort Worth is starting the Fourth of July with sunshine and building heat, headed for a high near 99°F and heat index values up to 102°F — so plan cookouts, ballgames, and fireworks around the hottest stretch of the afternoon, not through it.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service Fort Worth office says a weak upper trough is sliding east of North Texas today, keeping the metro mostly precipitation-free under the edge of a stronger ridge parked over West Texas. Highs climb into the upper 90s to near 100°F, with only a slight, 10-20% chance of an isolated afternoon storm — mainly for our eastern counties after 4 PM CT. Overnight lows only dip to around 80°F before creeping back up to 82°F by early morning, so it stays muggy after dark too.

Rain, Heat, Or Storm Risk

Notably, the NWS says forecast wet bulb globe temperatures (86-89°F range) fell just short of Heat Advisory criteria, so none is posted today — but heat index values near 102°F still call for real caution outdoors. There’s no severe weather outlook posted for our area today, and the Weather Prediction Center’s excessive rainfall risk stays well north over eastern Kansas and Oklahoma, not North Texas.

Best Window To Be Outside

Morning before 10 AM CT and evening after 7 PM CT are your best bets for yard work, golf, or a walk around White Rock Lake or the Katy Trail. Midday and early afternoon are brutal — that’s the window to be indoors or in the shade. If you’ve got tee times, get them in early; a golf polo shirt men’s style with UPF protection helps a lot once the sun climbs.

Rangers, Stars, and This Week’s Big Events

The Texas Rangers host the Detroit Tigers today and again Sunday, July 5, at Globe Life Field — first pitch heat will be intense, so hydrate before you tailgate and consider a rolling cooler with wheels for the walk in. Dress the part with a Texas Rangers jersey or Texas Rangers fitted cap, and grab tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub if you’re still deciding. The Dallas Stars open their second-round playoff series at American Airlines Center on July 5, and AT&T Stadium hosts World Cup Round of 16 action (Portugal vs. Spain) on July 6. Looking ahead, JOJI: SOLARIS lands at American Airlines Center July 8, and Dude Perfect - Squad Games Tour 2026 hits AAC July 11 — a Dude Perfect t-shirt makes a fun grab for the kids.

What To Wear Or Bring

Light colors, sunscreen, and water bottles are non-negotiable. For backyard hosting, now’s a good time to check your propane gas grill and set up outdoor string lights for tonight’s fireworks watch party — our outdoor gear deals roundup has options worth a look.

Tonight’s Dinner

With clear skies and grilling weather this good, fire up the grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. An instant-read meat thermometer takes the guesswork out of doneness, and a grill brush and scraper set keeps things clean between batches. If you want a budget-friendly cut, our pork loin under $1/lb smoking guide is worth a look. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Sunday brings another near-99°F day with a slightly better, 28% chance of afternoon storms as moisture increases. The NWS’s long-term outlook flags hot, mostly dry conditions continuing into next week as ridging builds back over Texas — so expect the heat to stick around through the holiday weekend and beyond.
