Dallas–Fort Worth wakes up to a muggy 73°F this morning, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected through the day and a high near 90°F before temperatures ease back to around 88°F this afternoon — so plan outdoor errands for the morning and keep a rain jacket within reach.
Today’s Setup
According to the National Weather Service Fort Worth office, a slow-moving upper-level low parked over West Texas and the Trans Pecos has fueled days of active weather across the state, and its influence is only gradually fading from North Texas today. Subtle disturbances rotating around that low, combined with afternoon heating, should redevelop showers and storms this afternoon, with the highest coverage along and west of I-35 — meaning Fort Worth and Arlington see better odds than the eastern Dallas suburbs. Drier mid-level air today versus recent days could also mean more lightning with these storms. Tonight’s low settles near 75°F, rising toward 77°F as showers linger before 10 PM CT.
Best Window To Be Outside
Get outside work done before midday. A slight shower chance lingers before 7 AM CT, then coverage builds through the afternoon as the atmosphere destabilizes. Morning dog walks, mowing, or a Katy Trail jog should beat the worst of it — afternoon and evening plans need an indoor backup.
Rain, Wind, Or Heat Risk
The NWS flags heavy rainfall as today’s primary concern, with a few strong storms capable of gusty downburst winds — secure patio furniture and grills before you head out. Separately, the Weather Prediction Center has posted a High Risk excessive rainfall outlook, but that’s centered well south and west of us, over the Edwards Plateau and Hill Country. DFW isn’t in that zone, though the same moisture-rich pattern means any storm cell here can still dump heavy downpours fast, especially west of I-35. Never drive into a flooded roadway.
What To Wear Or Bring
Toss a packable rain jacket and a compact travel umbrella in the car, especially if you’re headed downtown tonight for the Dallas Stars’ Round 4 Home Game 4 in the Stanley Cup Final at American Airlines Center, or over to the Australian Pink Floyd Show at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory. If those downburst winds knock out power, the DARAN 288Wh Power Station is currently $90 for Prime members and worth having on hand.

Meal Idea
With storms rolling through, this is a slow cooker chili or beef stew kind of day — start it before the afternoon rain and let it run while you watch the radar. A programmable slow cooker or an enameled cast iron Dutch oven makes it easy. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Friday stays warm with a high near 93°F and only isolated storm chances of 20% or less, mainly in the afternoon. After that, the NWS expects a pattern flip — drier and much hotter conditions build in this weekend into next week, with highs returning to the 90s and lower-100s. Enjoy today’s rain-cooled air while it lasts.
