Dallas-Fort Worth wakes up to a muggy, mostly clear Sunday near 79°F, but showers and thunderstorms move in after 7 AM CT as highs climb near 95°F before easing to around 92° in the afternoon — with heat index values as high as 100°. If you’re headed to White Rock Lake, the Katy Trail, or Trinity Park in Fort Worth, get your outdoor time in early, because the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth says flash flooding is the main concern with today’s storms.

Today’s Setup

A consolidated outflow boundary is triggering new storm development across North Texas this morning, with widely scattered storms also firing farther south as moisture deepens. Precipitable water values over 2 inches mean rain rates could run 2-3 inches per hour in any storm that parks over one spot. Chance of precipitation is 50% today, with a tenth to a quarter inch of rain possible; wind stays light out of the south around 5 mph.

Best Window To Be Outside

Before 7 AM CT is your calmest stretch — good for an early tee time, a dog walk, or mowing before the heat and storms build. After that, scattered storms fill in through peak afternoon heating. Sunday night carries another 52% chance of showers and storms with a quarter to half inch of rain possible as lows only dip to 75° before rising to 77°.

Rain, Wind, Or Heat Risk

Flash flooding is the headline risk today, tonight, and again Monday (high 91°, 53% storm chance) as a slow-moving upper-level wave lingers over North Texas. The Fort Worth NWS also notes a few storms could produce strong downburst winds and hail. If you’re driving through a storm, never cross a flooded roadway — turn around. Between rounds, heat index values near 100° mean you’ll still want water and shade.

Gameday & This Week’s Events

The Texas Rangers host the Houston Astros today at Globe Life Field — build in extra time before first pitch since storms are possible, and grab a Texas Rangers jersey or Texas Rangers fitted cap before heading out; Get tickets on SeatGeek if you still need seats. The Dallas Wings host the Chicago Sky tonight at American Airlines Center, no weather worries there. Looking ahead, the Dallas Stars open the Stanley Cup Final at American Airlines Center Monday, July 13, and RUSH: Fifty Something plays Dickies Arena that same night — Find tickets on StubHub for either. Hamilton lands at Bass Performance Hall Wednesday, July 15.

What To Wear Or Bring

Light, breathable clothing plus rain gear for pop-up storms; sunscreen and water for the humid gaps between showers. With downburst-capable storms in the forecast, it’s smart to have a backup power source ready — the DARAN 288Wh Power Station deal for Prime members is worth a look. Dinner Tonight

Between storm rounds is grilling weather — fire up the grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. Keep an instant-read meat thermometer and grill brush and scraper set handy so you can work fast if rain rolls back in. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Monday brings another round of storms (high 91°, 53% chance) as the same slow-moving wave lingers over North Texas. The Fort Worth NWS expects the pattern to gradually dry out, with seasonably hot, rain-free weather returning late in the week and highs climbing back into the upper 90s.
