Dallas-Fort Worth is starting Juneteenth with thunderstorms already firing across the Metroplex — the National Weather Service expects showers and storms to be likely between 10 AM and 1 PM CT, with a high near 89°F and a heat index that could reach 100°F. Have a plan before you step outside this morning.

Today’s Setup

A cold front is pressing southeast through North Texas today, pushing a round of scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms ahead of it. NWS Fort Worth notes some of these storms could be strong to marginally severe, with strong winds and heavy rain. Rainfall totals of a quarter to half an inch are possible across the DFW area. Once the front clears through the mid-afternoon hours, your chances of dry air improve heading into the evening — though a stray shower or storm can’t be completely ruled out tonight. Lows will settle near 75°F.

Storm Timing: When To Head Outside

The stormiest window runs roughly 10 AM to 1 PM CT — that’s when the NWS considers showers and thunderstorms likely, not just a chance. If you have Juneteenth plans at Kessler Park, White Rock Lake, or anywhere else outdoors, either wrap things up before 9 AM CT or hold off until around 3 PM CT when the front should be pushing through. Winds are light, out of the ENE at 5 to 10 mph, so once storms clear there’s nothing alarming on that front.

What To Wear Or Bring

Leave the house prepared today. A compact travel umbrella fits in any bag and is exactly what you need if you get caught between squalls. A packable rain jacket is even better for staying dry on the move. Once things clear out, the humidity is going to feel relentless even under clouds — a Yeti rambler water bottle is smart whether you’re at a Juneteenth festival or just running errands. With the heat index near 100°F, staying hydrated matters all day.

Rangers Weekend and Local Events

Baseball fans have a full slate this weekend: the Texas Rangers host the San Diego Padres at Globe Life Field on both Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21. Saturday’s forecast calls for a high near 91°F with a heat index up to 103°F and a 40% storm chance — keep an eye on timing if you’re planning to tailgate in Arlington. Show up game-ready in a Texas Rangers jersey or a Texas Rangers fitted cap. Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub if you still need seats.

Tonight, Palomazo Norteño Tour Clase Maestra plays Dickies Arena — try to arrive before the late-morning storm window gets going. Later this week, the Shakira Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour brings the party to American Airlines Center on June 23. Snag a Shakira t-shirt and Find tickets on StubHub before they’re gone. Louis Tomlinson’s How Did We Get Here? World Tour also stops at Dickies Arena on June 21.

Rainy Day Meal + What’s Ahead

A stormy holiday is built for comfort food. Load your programmable slow cooker with chili or beef stew this morning and let dinner handle itself while the rain rolls through. Or let an enameled cast iron Dutch oven earn its keep with a big pot of soup on the stovetop. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered right to your door.

Looking ahead, Saturday stays hot and unsettled near 91°F with that 40% storm chance, and the heat and humidity push through next week. Follow the Dallas-Fort Worth weather forecast for daily updates, and browse outdoor gear deals if you want to gear up for the rest of the season.
