Chicago is waking up to a mostly cloudy, cool Saturday with a high near 61°F — isolated showers near the lakefront are possible through 7 AM CT, but conditions improve through the afternoon before storm chances return overnight. Have a light rain layer handy for the morning, but your afternoon plans look workable.

Today’s Setup

A surface low tracking northeast toward Michigan is pushing scattered shower bands off Lake Michigan toward Illinois through mid-morning. If you’re near the North Side, Lincoln Park, or anywhere close to the shoreline, expect spotty drizzle early. The National Weather Service notes the lake breeze will keep lakeside highs in the low 60s, while inland neighborhoods could nudge a few degrees warmer. Winds stay light at 5 to 10 mph out of the north-northeast — a classic breezy Chicago spring morning.

Best Window To Be Outside

Target roughly 10 AM to 5 PM CT. The NWS forecasters expect showers to exit as the low pulls east over Michigan, leaving a dry, overcast afternoon. The Lakefront Trail, Millennium Park, and neighborhood farmers markets are fair game — just dress in layers. It’s too cool for shorts but a fleece or light jacket is all you need.

Rain and Storm Risk

The bigger story arrives overnight. An upper-level trough swinging in from the Central Plains will drive a surface front across the region Saturday night, with showers and an isolated thunderstorm possible. The precipitation chance rises to 40% after midnight CT. The Storm Prediction Center has no severe weather outlook for our area, so nothing alarming — but if you’re out late in Wicker Park or Wrigleyville, keep an eye on the radar.

Events and Games This Weekend

The Chicago Cubs host the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field today, and afternoon conditions are manageable. Dress in layers and grab a Chicago Cubs fitted cap for the Friendly Confines. A Chicago Cubs jersey makes you look the part no matter the weather. Get tickets on SeatGeek if you’re still looking.

Tonight, SLIDE AWAY 2026 rocks Aragon Ballroom — fully indoors, so the overnight rain is a non-issue. Also tonight, Chicago Fire FC faces Toronto FC at Soldier Field with a post-match concert featuring Lupe Fiasco; temps will be in the low-to-mid 50s by showtime, so bundle up. Find tickets on StubHub if you haven’t locked them in.

Sunday, the Sueños Festival takes over Grant Park — check our full weather preview before you head out, as storm chances linger before noon.

Allergy sufferers, the damp and cloudy stretch is keeping pollen stirred up. Claritin non-drowsy allergy is worth tossing in your bag before heading out.

Rainy Day Comfort Food

A cool, gray Saturday is tailor-made for a set-it-and-forget-it dinner. Load up a programmable slow cooker with chili or beef stew before you head to the game, and it’ll be ready when you get home. An enameled cast iron Dutch oven works just as well for a big pot of soup on the stovetop. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Sunday brings a 39% storm chance before noon, then partial clearing with a high near 65°F — hopeful for game two of Cubs-Astros at Wrigley. The National Weather Service is signaling above-normal temperatures heading into early next week, so Chicago’s summer warmth is on its way.
