Charlotte is in for a soggy Sunday, with a high near 85°F and showers and thunderstorms likely through the evening, so keep the rain gear handy and have an indoor backup ready before you head out.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg says a slow-moving front to our west is the culprit, feeding deep tropical moisture into the Charlotte area with precipitable water values near 2.2 to 2.4 inches — close to daily records. That means rounds of showers and thunderstorms capable of heavy downpours, with quarter- to half-inch rainfall totals possible and an 85% chance of precipitation today. Winds stay light out of the south at 5 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph.

Best Window To Be Outside

Don’t expect a clean dry stretch. Storms are possible before 7 AM, patchy fog and a slight rain chance linger from 8 to 11 AM, and showers and thunderstorms become likely again from 11 AM through the afternoon and evening. If you’ve got errands uptown or around South End, an early morning run before 7 AM is your best bet. Tonight’s Charlotte Crown vs. Jacksonville Waves match and Tame Impala’s Deadbeat Tour stop, both at indoor venues (Bojangles Coliseum and Spectrum Center), are smart weather-proof plans — find tickets on StubHub if you want in on the Tame Impala show.

Rain, Wind, Fire, Or Heat Risk

The NWS is flagging locally heavy rainfall and isolated flash flooding as the main hazard through Sunday evening, with training thunderstorms capable of dumping rain fast. A low-end severe weather risk is also possible this afternoon. Keep an eye on low-lying spots and creeks near uptown and South End if storms stall overhead.

What To Wear Or Bring

A packable rain jacket and a compact travel umbrella are the move today. If you’re headed toward Lake Norman or muddy trail systems, waterproof hiking boots will keep you comfortable.

Charlotte FC & This Week’s Ahead

Charlotte FC hosts Pumas in Leagues Cup play Monday, August 4 at Bank of America Stadium. Monday’s forecast trends drier with a high near 86°F and just a 30-33% storm chance limited to the 10 AM–2 PM window, so tailgating looks workable — just watch the radar early. Get tickets on SeatGeek and grab official team gear on Fanatics before kickoff.

Meal Idea For Tonight

With rain on and off all day, this is a slow cooker chili or beef stew kind of night. A programmable slow cooker or an enameled cast iron Dutch oven makes it easy. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Expect a more typical late-summer pattern to settle in behind today’s front, though the NWS notes daily thunderstorm chances may stay elevated into the week — so keep that umbrella within reach even after the rain tapers off tonight.

Upcoming Home Games

Plan around the forecast — grab tickets, gear up, and see kickoff conditions.
