Charlotte, NC is waking up to another round of showers and thunderstorms today, with a cloudy high near 77 and an 80% chance of rain—so if you’ve got outdoor plans, build in a backup and keep the umbrella by the door.
Today’s Setup
The National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg says convection has actually let up a bit this morning, giving the Charlotte area a relative lull after an active stretch. Don’t get too comfortable, though: showers and storms are likely to redevelop this afternoon into the evening as the atmosphere restabilizes in a very moist air mass. Expect another quarter to half an inch of rain, with patchy fog lingering into midday. Winds stay light out of the east-northeast around 7 mph. Tonight cools to near 66 with more storms possible before 5 AM.
Best Window To Be Outside
If you need to walk the dog, run errands, or hit the greenway, this morning is your best shot before storms fire back up. By early-to-mid afternoon, expect the sky to darken again over Uptown, South End, and out toward Lake Norman.
Rain, Wind, Fire, Or Heat Risk
The NWS Weather Prediction Center has placed the Carolinas in a slight risk for excessive rainfall today. While the Flash Flood Watch itself is focused on the northern NC mountains and foothills, localized flash flooding is possible across the rest of the forecast area, Charlotte included, especially where storms train over the same neighborhoods. Isolated severe storms are also possible across the southern part of the forecast area this afternoon, which puts Mecklenburg County in play. If storms knock out power, a DARAN 288Wh Power Station is worth having charged and ready.
What To Wear Or Bring
Skip the sneakers—grab waterproof hiking boots if you’re heading outside, and stash a compact travel umbrella or a packable rain jacket in the car. Patchy fog this morning means giving yourself extra room on I-77 and I-485.
Upcoming Shows Worth Watching
Bank of America Stadium hosts Usher Raymond & Chris Brown on July 17, and by then drier conditions should be building in, per the NWS outlook for a return to hot, dry weather during the back half of the week—grab tickets on SeatGeek and an Usher Raymond & Chris Brown t-shirt while you plan. Out at Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre, Wale & Smino play July 16; check StubHub for seats.

Next Few Days
Tuesday improves noticeably: partly sunny, high near 83, with just a 34% chance of afternoon showers between 11 AM and 2 PM. Tuesday night drops to near 67 under partly cloudy skies. The NWS expects a return to seasonably hot and drier conditions by the latter half of next week, a welcome break for anyone tired of soggy commutes around Charlotte.
