Boston is kicking off Friday, June 12 at a warm, muggy 83°F with storm chances building through the afternoon — check your Boston weather forecast before heading out and toss a compact travel umbrella in your bag.
Today’s Setup
The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in effect for most of Massachusetts through 8 PM ET tonight. Coastal neighborhoods and the harbor area will top out in the low 80s thanks to onshore flow, but dewpoints near 70°F make it feel significantly hotter away from the water. Stay hydrated — an insulated water jug 1 gallon is worth having close by throughout the day.
Storm Timing and Safety
NWS forecasters are tracking two rounds of activity today. Rain showers are most likely from 8–11 AM ET, mainly near the coast. A second, potentially stronger round could arrive between 11 AM and 2 PM ET, with scattered storms possible into the evening. The National Weather Service notes a slight risk (level 2 of 5) of severe weather for parts of interior Massachusetts, with the chance remaining “low but not zero” for eastern Massachusetts. The Weather Prediction Center also flagged a marginal risk of excessive rainfall for New England — brief, heavy downpours are possible. Keep radar close and head inside if you hear thunder.
Tonight’s Games and Shows
Heading to Fenway Park for the Red Sox vs. Texas Rangers tonight? A window between roughly 3–5 PM ET may be the steadiest stretch outdoors, but have a rain plan. Deck out in a Boston Red Sox jersey and Boston Red Sox fitted cap, and grab seats through Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub.
Also tonight: the Dave Matthews Band headlines the Xfinity Center, and the Marcus King Band: Darling Blue Tour Pt. 2 plays MGM Music Hall at Fenway. A packable rain jacket tucked in your bag is smart for both — and snag a Dave Matthews Band t-shirt if you’re heading to Xfinity.
This Weekend: 92°F and the World Cup
Saturday flips the forecast entirely. Sunny skies and a high near 92°F with northwest winds around 9 mph — hot, but humidity drops meaningfully. Bring a soft cooler backpack and plenty of fluids to the Red Sox vs. Texas Rangers on Saturday, June 13 at Fenway. It’ll be scorching on Yawkey Way. Check out our outdoor gear deals for tailgate essentials before you go.
Also Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough: World Cup Match 5 Group C — Haiti vs. Scotland. That’s a long walk from the parking lots in blazing heat — hydrate early, hydrate often.
Tonight’s Dinner Idea
Afternoon storms are made for slow cooker weather. Set a programmable slow cooker with chili or beef stew before you head out and dinner handles itself. An enameled cast iron Dutch oven is equally great for a big pot of soup on the stovetop. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything delivered straight to your door.
Next Few Days
Saturday brings full sunshine and near 92°F — the weekend’s prime outdoor window. Sunday stays warm before a new round of potentially strong storms arrives Sunday night. Early next week brings a welcome cooldown toward more seasonable June temperatures. Keep tabs on your Boston weather forecast for the full picture.
