Baltimore’s forecast today calls for a high near 88°F with mostly cloudy skies and a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with the National Weather Service in Sterling flagging a window of strong to severe storms between roughly 2 PM and 8 PM ET — so get your outdoor plans done early if you can.
Today’s Setup
A weak cold front is sliding through, and after some patchy morning fog west of the city, showers build in through the afternoon. Winds stay light out of the north at 1 to 7 mph, but that calm won’t last once storms fire. Tonight drops to a low around 70°F with showers and thunderstorms likely before 7 PM, tapering to a lower chance by 11 PM.
Storm Risk & Flash Flooding
The Storm Prediction Center has our area along and south of I-70 — meaning Baltimore itself — in a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms, with damaging winds and lightning the main threats. The Weather Prediction Center also has the Chesapeake Bay region, including Baltimore, in a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall and localized flash flooding (western Maryland is under a higher Slight Risk). If storms roll through while you’re near the Inner Harbor or Fort McHenry, get indoors and away from open water. A DARAN 288Wh Power Station is worth having on hand if the damaging-wind threat knocks out power for a few hours.
Gameday & Concert Weather
The Baltimore Orioles host the Kansas City Royals at Camden Yards both today and Sunday, plus today’s Hot Dog Race Caps promotion — but today’s first pitch sits right in the storm window, so expect possible delays; Sunday’s game looks much calmer with partly sunny skies, a high near 86°F, and only a 2% rain chance, making it the better tailgate day. Grab a Baltimore Orioles jersey or Baltimore Orioles fitted cap before you head down, and if you’re weighing seats, you can get tickets on SeatGeek or find tickets on StubHub. Nearby, Usher and Chris Brown bring the R&B Tour to Northwest Stadium tonight — the same storm system will be moving through that area too, so pack ponchos; an USHER t-shirt makes a solid souvenir either way.
What To Wear Or Bring
Humid, unsettled air means waterproof hiking boots are smarter than sneakers if you’re out and about this afternoon, and it’s not a great day to mow the lawn or start outdoor projects until the front clears tonight.
Dinner Tonight
With storms rolling through, this is a stay-in, comfort-food kind of evening — think a slow cooker chili or a pot of beef stew simmering while the rain passes. A programmable slow cooker or enameled cast iron Dutch oven makes it easy. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Sunday clears out nicely (86°F, partly sunny) and Sunday night cools to near 69°F. The NWS discussion notes heat and humidity build back in from Wednesday through Saturday, so enjoy the milder stretch while it lasts. For more on rain gear, browse outdoor gear deals.
