Baltimore is baking under a Heat Advisory today, July 5, with a high near 95°F and heat index values as high as 105 before storms move in this afternoon. The National Weather Service has the advisory running from 10 AM until 8 PM ET along the I-95 corridor, so if you’re headed to the Inner Harbor or walking around Fort McHenry this morning, get it done early.

Today’s Setup

Mostly sunny skies hold through early afternoon, but the NWS Baltimore/Washington office expects a chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after 2 PM ET, with a 30% chance of rain and localized downpours of a tenth to a quarter inch. Overnight, that chance jumps sharply — a 90% probability of showers and thunderstorms tonight, with a low around 74°F and up to three-quarters of an inch of rain possible.

Rain, Wind, Fire, Or Heat Risk

The bigger story is the flash flood threat. The Weather Prediction Center has a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall stretching into far northern Maryland tonight into Monday, tied to a slow-moving frontal boundary parked over the region — training storms could dump heavy rain in short bursts. Forecasters also note patchy fog developing overnight, worsened by residual firework smoke lingering over the Baltimore area, so visibility could drop on I-95 and the Beltway before sunrise clears it out. Monday brings another round, with storms likely near 88°F and a 60% chance of rain, especially between 2 and 5 PM ET.

Best Window To Be Outside

Morning through early afternoon today is your best bet before humidity and storm chances climb — but respect the heat advisory and take breaks in the shade or AC. Skip mowing the lawn until after Monday’s storms clear; the ground will already be saturated.

What To Wear Or Bring

Light, breathable clothing and water are musts today. With the heat and humidity working against you, an anti-frizz hair serum can be a lifesaver before you head out, and an insulated tumbler 30oz keeps drinks cold through the afternoon swelter. Given the flash flood and storm risk, it’s worth keeping a DARAN 288Wh Power Station on hand in case storms knock out power — it’s discounted for Prime members right now.

Baltimore Sports & Events

The Baltimore Orioles host the Chicago Cubs at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on July 7 and July 8 — both look like warm, humid evenings following this stretch of storms, so check the radar before tailgating. Grab a Baltimore Orioles jersey or Baltimore Orioles fitted cap to gear up. Shakira brings the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour to CFG Bank Arena on July 6 — read our full concert weather breakdown, grab tickets on SeatGeek, and pick up a Shakira t-shirt before the show.

Tonight’s Meal Idea

With heat index values near 105°F, skip the stove. Whip up a cold Thai noodle salad or smoothie bowls with a high-powered blender. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Storms and flash flood potential linger into Monday before the NWS says more seasonable conditions return by mid-to-late week.
