Baltimore, MD is in for a stormy Monday with temperatures pushing near 91°F and a 90% chance of widespread thunderstorms this afternoon and evening — run outdoor errands before noon and plan to stay close to shelter after that.
Today’s Setup
A low-pressure system is tracking northeast from the Ohio River Valley into Pennsylvania today, lifting a warm, humid airmass over the Baltimore-Washington corridor. The National Weather Service is calling for scattered showers and storms before 2 PM ET, shifting to widespread thunderstorms through the afternoon and evening. According to the NWS Baltimore area forecast discussion, the Storm Prediction Center has placed most of the region in a Slight Risk for severe weather, meaning damaging winds, large hail, and heavy downpours are all on the table. Temperatures will peak near 91°F before falling back to around 83°F as storms push through, with south winds around 15 mph and gusts to 23 mph making the humidity feel especially brutal.
Best Window To Be Outside
Short answer: this morning only. Whether you’re walking Patterson Park, grabbing coffee in Fells Point, or catching some air at the Inner Harbor, wrap it up before noon. The first round of storms is expected to fire up along a pre-frontal trough early this afternoon and push east across the metro. NWS Baltimore is also monitoring a potential second round during the evening to early overnight hours, with most storms finally winding down around 1 AM ET.
Today’s rainfall totals could reach half to three-quarters of an inch, with tonight’s storms adding another three-quarters to one inch before clearing. Watch for flooding on low-lying roads and underpasses along I-83 and I-695. With power outages possible during gusty storms, the DARAN 288Wh Power Station is just $90 for Prime members right now — a smart storm-season investment to keep your devices running.
Too Hot To Cook
Skip the stove entirely tonight. Cold Thai noodle salad, a build-your-own wrap bar, or smoothie bowls are exactly right for this heat. A high-powered blender makes those bowls fast, and an insulated tumbler 30oz keeps your drink cold through the evening humidity. Need ingredients? Order groceries on Amazon and skip the rain entirely.
