Baltimore is waking up to a soggy Memorial Day with rain showers, patchy fog along I-95, and a high near 77°F — grab your compact travel umbrella before you head out to any cookouts or down to Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service is tracking a stalled weather boundary draped right over the Baltimore and DC metro areas, with light to moderate rain moving through the I-95 corridor through midday. Dense fog has already been reported just south of the city early this morning, and that mist will linger into the mid-morning hours. A cold front is expected to push the boundary south this afternoon, touching off a new round of scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms between roughly 2 PM and 6 PM ET. Southwest winds stay light — around 3 mph — so the air will feel muggy. Precipitation chance sits at 80% today.

Rain Timing and Flood Watch

NWS forecasters note the storms today will be efficient rain producers due to well-above-normal moisture in the atmosphere. Even a garden-variety thunderstorm could quickly drop a quarter-inch or more over a small area. If you’re near Fells Point, Canton, or anywhere along the Patapsco River, watch for any localized street flooding this afternoon. The active pattern continues through Wednesday before drier conditions return to close out the week.

Camden Yards: Orioles vs. Rays

The Baltimore Orioles host the Tampa Bay Rays today at Oriole Park at Camden Yards — and it’s a Maryland Replica Jersey giveaway day, so there’s extra incentive to brave the weather. Expect a damp atmosphere and a real chance of a rain delay in the afternoon. Layer a packable rain jacket over your Baltimore Orioles jersey, and a Baltimore Orioles fitted cap will keep the rain off your face in the bleachers. Need seats? Find tickets on StubHub or Get tickets on SeatGeek while they’re still available. The series continues Monday through Wednesday, so Tuesday’s 80°F mostly-cloudy forecast may offer the cleanest game-day conditions of the series.

What To Wear and Bring

77°F sounds like a pleasant late-May day, but factor in the rain and humidity and you’ll want to dress light and waterproof. A packable rain jacket is the right call — compact enough to stuff in a bag, protective enough for an afternoon downpour. Pair it with waterproof hiking boots if you’re doing any walking around the Inner Harbor or Fort McHenry. Don’t leave the car without a compact travel umbrella.

Tonight: Electric Callboy at MGM National Harbor

If you’re heading to the Electric Callboy concert at The Theater at MGM National Harbor tonight (May 25), the good news is it’s indoors — and rain chances drop to around 30% after 9 PM with a low near 64°F. Pick up an Electric Callboy t-shirt and show up ready. The venue is just across the Potomac, so the commute should be fine once afternoon storms wind down.

Rainy Day Dinner Idea

The grill is not your friend today, so let the weather call the meal: set up a programmable slow cooker this morning with a batch of chili or beef stew and let it do the work while the storms roll through. An enameled cast iron Dutch oven works beautifully if you’d rather simmer on the stovetop. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Tuesday sees a chance of early showers before 9 AM ET, then mostly cloudy skies and a high near 80°F — a workable day if you’re patient. Active weather holds through Wednesday, then drier and more seasonable conditions move in for the back half of the week. If you’re eyeing a round of golf once the fairways dry out, the Callaway Big Bertha Fairway Wood deal is worth a look while it lasts.
