Baltimore is in for a hot, sticky Friday, July 10, with a high near 90°F and a chance of showers and thunderstorms arriving after 2 PM — if you’ve got outdoor plans around the Inner Harbor or a trip to Oriole Park at Camden Yards tonight, get them done early and keep an eye on the radar this afternoon.

Today’s Setup

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, a few disturbances will ride through the mid-levels of the atmosphere today, tapping rich low-level moisture and warm temperatures. Combined with 20-25 knots of wind shear, that’s enough to fuel a few strong to severe storms capable of damaging wind gusts and torrential downpours, mainly this afternoon into tonight. The Storm Prediction Center has our entire area, including Baltimore, in a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms today into tonight. Western Maryland is under a Flood Watch, but that’s not us — still, it’s the same storm complex feeding into our neighborhood later.

Best Window To Be Outside

Morning through early afternoon is your best bet — warm and humid, but dry. Wind stays light (3 to 8 mph out of the west), so it’s a fine window for yard work, a walk around Fort McHenry, or errands before the sky turns.

Storm And Wind Risk

Once storms fire after 2 PM, any stronger cell could bring gusty winds strong enough to knock over patio furniture or loose canopies — a ratchet tie down strap kit or heavy-duty garden gear is worth having on hand this time of year. If a storm knocks out power, a portable option like the DARAN 288Wh Power Station, currently discounted for Prime members, is a smart backup to keep in the garage.

Orioles Gameday At Camden Yards

The Orioles host the Kansas City Royals tonight, Saturday, and Sunday (July 10-12). Tonight’s game window falls right in the storm-chance zone, so tailgaters should plan for a possible delay. Saturday looks wetter, with a 70% chance of showers and storms likely between 1 and 4 PM and a high near 88°F. Check the full Orioles-Royals gameday forecast before you head downtown, grab your Baltimore Orioles jersey or Baltimore Orioles fitted cap, and get tickets on SeatGeek if you’re still deciding.

Tonight’s Concerts

Chris Brown joins Usher for The R&B Tour at Northwest Stadium tonight — a Chris Brown t-shirt makes a fun addition if you’re heading over, and tickets on SeatGeek are worth checking if seats remain.

What To Wear Or Bring

Light, breathable clothes for the heat, a compact rain layer for the pop-up storms, and bug spray for humid evening air around the harbor.

Tonight’s Dinner Idea

With highs near 90°F, it’s too hot to fire up the stove. Go cold: a Thai noodle salad, a build-your-own wrap bar, or smoothie bowls all work well tonight. A high-powered blender makes smoothie bowls easy, and an insulated tumbler 30oz keeps drinks cold on the porch. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Saturday stays unsettled with that 70% storm chance and a high near 88°F, tapering to a 49% chance Saturday night with a low around 70°F. The Area Forecast Discussion notes warming temperatures and minimal precipitation chances moving into next week, so drier, hotter air looks to settle back in behind this weekend’s storms.

Upcoming Home Games
