Atlanta is looking at a hot, sticky Thursday with a high near 91°F and heat index values climbing to 97°F, so knock out any yard work or errands before showers and thunderstorms move in after 2 PM — especially if you’re headed to Truist Park tonight.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City says a frontal boundary sagging into north Georgia is today’s trigger. Southwest wind at 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph, will help usher in tropical moisture. This morning’s rain has stayed mostly north of the metro, but that changes as the front pushes south this afternoon. Expect a 30% chance of showers and storms today, rising to a 50% chance overnight with a low around 75°F.

Rain, Flood, And Wind Risk

This is the headline concern: a Flood Watch remains in effect through late Friday evening across portions of north Georgia. NWS forecasters are flagging locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding as the top threat, driven by extremely moist air with PWATs of 2 to 2.25 inches or more. Friday looks even wetter, with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms and rainfall totals between three-quarters and a full inch possible. Avoid driving through standing water Friday afternoon if flooding develops near you.

Best Window To Be Outside

Morning through early afternoon today is your best window for anything outside — dog walks, mowing, a Piedmont Park stroll — before storm chances climb after 2 PM. Friday’s window is narrower, with storms likely between 11 AM and 5 PM.

Braves, Concerts, And Weekend Plans

The Atlanta Braves host the San Diego Padres at Truist Park tonight. Tailgating should be fine early, but pack a poncho given the afternoon storm chances. Get tickets on SeatGeek and gear up in an Atlanta Braves jersey or Atlanta Braves fitted cap. Over at State Farm Arena, Daniel Caesar brings his Son Of Spergy Tour Friday night — Find tickets on StubHub and grab a Daniel Caesar t-shirt for the show.

What To Wear Or Bring

With heat index near 97°F, carry an insulated tumbler 30oz to stay hydrated before the storms roll through. If Friday’s rain keeps you inside, it’s a good excuse to check out the 50-inch Pioneer 4K Roku TV deal for watching the Braves game from the couch.

Tonight’s Dinner Idea

With this heat and humidity, skip the stove tonight — a cold Thai noodle salad, build-your-own wrap bar, or smoothie bowls are the move. A high-powered blender makes quick work of smoothie bowls. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Check the full Atlanta weather forecast for updates through the weekend, and browse outdoor gear deals before storms return.

Next Few Days

Friday stays unsettled with storms likely and a high near 88°F, falling to around 84°F in the afternoon. The heavy rain and flash flood threat continues into Saturday as the front lingers over north Georgia, so keep rain gear handy through the weekend. NWS forecasters note heat concerns rebound in earnest next week, with temperatures and heat index trending upward again by Monday.

Upcoming Home Games

Plan around the forecast — grab tickets, gear up, and see kickoff conditions.
