Atlanta wakes up to a soggy Sunday, with a high near 88°F, a chance of showers and thunderstorms, and a flash flood threat still lingering from overnight downpours — so if you’re heading out today, keep a rain jacket within reach and check radar before you commit to outdoor plans.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service Peachtree City office says a slow-moving cold front is still draped across north Georgia this morning, and areas of east-central Georgia picked up more than 5 inches of rain in the last several hours, with rainfall rates topping 3 to 4 inches per hour in spots. That flash flood threat hasn’t ended yet. Through the day, expect a 30% chance of showers and storms with a high near 88°F and southwest wind around 5 to 10 mph, gusting to 20 mph. Overnight lows dip to around 71°F with lingering shower chances before things trend toward partly cloudy.

Flash Flood And Storm Risk

Forecasters note instability could rebound this afternoon across east-central Georgia, priming isolated to scattered strong-to-severe storms with gusty winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rain. If you’re in a flood-prone area — near the Chattahoochee or low-lying spots around Piedmont Park — avoid driving through standing water and have a way to get flash flood warnings on your phone.

Braves At Truist Park & Weekend Events

First pitch conditions for the Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals game today at Truist Park will be warm and unsettled, with a real chance storms roll through during the game or tailgate — pack a packable rain jacket and a compact travel umbrella for the parking lots. Gear up in an Atlanta Braves jersey or Atlanta Braves fitted cap either way. Looking ahead, the Atlanta Dream host the Las Vegas Aces at State Farm Arena on Monday, and Mumford & Sons bring the Prizefighter Tour to State Farm Arena on Tuesday — grab a Mumford & Sons t-shirt if you’re headed in, and you can find tickets on StubHub or get tickets on SeatGeek for either show.

What To Pack Today

With on-and-off downpours expected, waterproof hiking boots are worth it if you’re walking the BeltLine or Piedmont Park trails between bands of rain. Hold off on mowing the lawn until the ground firms up later this week — when it does, an EGO Power+ battery deal (/home/ego-power-plus-56v-battery-deal-spring-2026/) is worth a look for cordless yard work. Dinner Tonight

A soggy Sunday is the perfect excuse to let dinner cook itself. Toss ingredients into a programmable slow cooker for chili or beef stew, or build a pot of soup in an enameled cast iron Dutch oven while the storms roll through outside. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Monday looks similar — mostly sunny early with a high near 87°F, then a 37% chance of storms firing up after 2 PM ET as the front finally clears. The NWS says once that front exits, Atlanta shifts into a classic summertime pattern with diurnally driven, afternoon thunderstorms continuing into next week as highs climb back toward the mid-90s. Keep the rain gear handy — this won’t be the last soggy afternoon this week.
