The National Weather Service office in Peachtree City says a very humid, tropical airmass is parked over Georgia, with atmospheric moisture near climatological max. That’s why the heat index is running well above the actual air temperature. A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 8 PM today for portions of east and central Georgia where heat index values could breach 105 — metro Atlanta sits close enough to that zone that it’s worth treating today like advisory conditions even if you’re just north of the official line. Overnight lows only dipped to around 74, and winds stay light out of the northwest at 5 to 10 mph.

Morning through early afternoon is your window. If you’re teeing off at a course near Piedmont Park or casting a line on the Chattahoochee, get out at sunrise — a golf rangefinder and a live bait aerator bucket are smart companions before the heat and any pop-up storms arrive.
