Stephen Wilson Jr. takes the Petco Park stage this Saturday for the KSON NASCAR San Diego Weekend Countryfest, and the weather is playing right along — mostly sunny skies, a high near 81°F, and not a drop of rain in sight. But those westerly wind gusts, which the National Weather Service forecasts as high as 25 mph, will be the wild card of the day.

Morning Fog, Afternoon Sun

Saturday starts with patchy fog before 11 AM PT, so if you’re heading down early for pre-show activities, toss a light layer in your bag. That fog burns off by late morning, leaving full sun through the evening. The headliner hits at 7:00 PM PT, so you’ll want to account for several hours of afternoon sun before the lights go down.

Sun Protection Is Non-Negotiable

With zero percent chance of rain and an open-air ballpark baking in the afternoon heat, your skin will feel every degree of that 81°F high. Apply SPF 50 sport sunscreen before you leave home and reapply every two hours — especially on your neck, shoulders, and the back of your hands.

Stay ahead of the heat by carrying a hydration backpack into the festival. It’s easy to forget to drink water when you’re caught up in the energy of a live show, and long concession lines don’t help.

Wind Is the Wild Card

West winds of 0 to 10 mph are typical for a San Diego summer day, but those gusts up to 25 mph will make themselves known in an open stadium. A bandana face cover does double duty here: it blocks wind-driven dust and debris and doubles as a festival-ready accessory that fits the country vibe perfectly.

Keep your belongings anchored — lightweight items like paper programs, napkins, and hats will go airborne in a 25 mph gust.

What to Pack

Bring everything you need in a clear stadium bag — most major venues require them, and it’ll get you through security faster. Load it with:

  • SPF 50 sport sunscreen (reapply mid-afternoon)
  • Portable phone charger 20000mah — a full festival day drains batteries fast, especially when you’re filming every song
  • Your bandana face cover for windy moments

What to Wear

Light, breathable clothes are the right call for the afternoon, but San Diego evenings can cool off noticeably after sunset. Pack a portable blanket waterproof — it works as a ground cover during the show and a wrap when the post-sunset breeze rolls in off the water. Comfortable walking sandals will carry you from the parking lot to the concourse and back without complaint.

Practical Tips

  • Arrive by 5:30 PM PT. Summer Saturday traffic around Petco Park fills up fast — give yourself buffer time to park and get through gates before the opener.
  • Check the venue’s bag policy before you arrive. Confirm what outside food, beverages, and cameras are allowed on the KSON or Petco Park website.
  • Secure light items. In 25 mph gusts, anything loose on your blanket or in your lap can take flight. Tuck items into your bag when you’re not using them.
  • Pre-hydrate. Festival bar lines get long. Drink water before you leave and keep filling up throughout the day.

Stephen Wilson Jr. and the full KSON Countryfest lineup are primed for a night San Diego won’t forget. Pack your sunscreen, anchor your hat, and let those westerly winds carry the music.
