Seattle is waking up to rain on Wednesday morning, with wet conditions expected to linger through early afternoon before drying out by evening.

Rain will continue overnight and through most of Wednesday morning as a low-pressure system moves inland from southwest Oregon. The National Weather Service expects a 90% chance of precipitation through midday, with a quarter to half-inch of new rainfall possible. Temperatures will hover around 50°F overnight and climb to a high near 56°F by afternoon. The real story today? Wind. Expect sustained winds of 6 to 13 mph from the south-southwest, with gusts potentially reaching 20 to 30 mph as the system moves through—so hold onto your hats around Pioneer Square and the Waterfront.

The rain should taper off by 3 PM, making it a good time to head indoors for lunch rather than tackle outdoor errands. If you’re heading to the Seattle Torrent vs. Minnesota Frost game at Climate Pledge Arena tonight, you’ll dodge the worst of the wet weather, though bring a packable rain jacket just in case—conditions should be mostly dry by game time.

For those planning to attend the Electric Callboy: Tanzneid World Tour at the Paramount Theatre on Friday or the MercyMe - Wonder + Awe Tour at Angel of the Winds Arena on Friday evening, you’ll have much better weather. Both events fall during our drying and warming trend, so grab tickets on SeatGeek and pair them with an Electric Callboy hoodie or MercyMe t-shirt to complete your concert look.

Today’s conditions call for a good old-fashioned comfort meal. A slow cooker chili or hearty beef stew is perfect for a gray, rainy Wednesday—set it before work and come home to warmth and aroma. If you need ingredients, a programmable slow cooker makes this effortless, and you can order everything from your pantry staples to fresh vegetables on Amazon for delivery.

What to wear: Layer up with a packable rain jacket over your regular clothes. If you’re planning any trail time around the Olympic Mountains once conditions clear, waterproof hiking boots will keep your feet dry through the weekend.

The outlook: Conditions improve dramatically Thursday through the weekend. By Thursday afternoon, expect partly sunny skies and a high near 60°F—perfect for a walk around Green Lake or a round at one of the local courses. High pressure builds in from the northeast Pacific, bringing drier, northwesterly flow aloft. Snow levels will lower to 3,000–4,000 feet on the mountains, but no significant accumulations are expected. This is shaping up to be a beautiful stretch to get outside and enjoy what the Pacific Northwest does best when it’s not raining.
