Los Angeles is in for a rare spring rain event today, with light rain likely developing after 11 AM and continuing through this evening, with a high near 71°F and gusty south winds up to 20 mph.

This late-season storm system is moving across Southern California this morning, and while LA won’t see the heaviest rainfall (that’s reserved for San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties), we’ll still get our share of moisture. Expect rainfall amounts around a third of an inch or less across most of LA County, though some localized heavier downpours are possible, especially in low-lying urban areas and near recent burn scars. Peak rainfall rates should stay around a quarter-inch per hour, but minor urban flooding is possible if rates spike.

The rain will taper off by late evening—around 11 PM—before partly cloudy skies take over overnight. Temperatures will drop to around 55°F.

What to do today: If you’re planning outdoor activities in Griffith Park, Runyon Canyon, or along the beach, I’d suggest moving them indoors or pushing them to Wednesday. Today’s a great day for that movie you’ve been meaning to catch, or grab lunch at a favorite restaurant. If you’re heading to Angel Stadium for the Angels-Blue Jays game this afternoon, bring a rain jacket and umbrella—you might need them during the game, though conditions should be dry enough for play.

For those with allergies, the rain will actually help clear pollen from the air, which is a silver lining. However, if you’re sensitive to mold spores that thrive in damp conditions, consider using an allergy relief nasal spray before heading out. A pollen count face mask can also help if you’re venturing outside during peak rainfall.

The Lakers face the Rockets tonight at Crypto.com Arena—no weather concerns there since it’s indoors.

Gear to grab: Keep an umbrella handy and wear layers. A light rain jacket works perfectly for these mild 70-degree conditions. If you’re monitoring indoor air quality during the rain, an air quality monitor can help you track humidity levels, and a HEPA air purifier will keep your home’s air clean while windows stay closed.

Looking ahead: Wednesday is a complete turnaround—sunny skies, high near 72°F, and light west-southwest winds. That’s your day to catch up on outdoor plans. LAFC takes on the Colorado Rapids at BMO Stadium on Thursday, and while conditions look mostly clear, it’ll be a bit cooler.

Tonight’s dinner idea: With rain keeping you indoors, this is perfect weather for a warm, comforting pasta or stir-fry. Whip up a creamy carbonara or veggie-loaded noodles to match the cozy vibe. Did you know you can order groceries on Amazon? Get everything you need for tonight’s dinner delivered straight to your door.

Stay safe: Avoid driving through flooded streets, and watch for slick roads during the heaviest rain periods this afternoon.
