Detroit is looking at a beautiful sunny day today with a high near 72°F and light north winds around 6 mph—some of the nicest April weather we’ve seen in a while.
This morning started clear across the Motor City after that frontal system moved through overnight. You might’ve caught some patchy fog near daybreak, but that’s already clearing out. The National Weather Service notes that high pressure is sliding across the northern Great Lakes, keeping us mild and sunny through most of the afternoon. There’s a small chance (just 4%) of a stray shower or thunderstorm far south near the Ohio border, but here in Detroit proper—from downtown to the riverfront, Belle Isle, and out toward the suburbs—we’re looking at wall-to-wall sunshine.
This is prime time for outdoor activities. If you’ve been itching to get your golf game in, today’s your day. The calm winds and mild temps make for excellent conditions at courses around the area. Similarly, if you’ve been thinking about firing up the grill for the season, today’s the perfect excuse. A propane gas grill is calling your name—grab one and get those burgers and steaks going. Pair it with a patio furniture set and outdoor string lights, and you’ve got the makings of a great evening entertaining on the deck.
Temperatures will actually trend slightly downward as the afternoon progresses, dropping to around 70°F by evening, so you won’t need much more than a light jacket if you’re heading out. Allergy sufferers should note that conditions are fairly dry today, which might offer some relief.
Tonight stays mostly clear with lows around 47°F—great sleeping weather if you like to crack the windows.
Looking ahead: Thursday cranks up to 74°F under sunny skies, still excellent. But Friday is when things get interesting—we’ll see a chance of showers and thunderstorms develop later in the day (39% chance), so keep an eye on the forecast if you’re planning outdoor activities.
