Dallas-Fort Worth is tracking scattered showers and thunderstorms today with a high near 70°F, but the real weather story unfolds Thursday and Friday when widespread rain and potential flooding move in across the region.

Today’s Storm Window (Wednesday)

A 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms will persist throughout the afternoon and evening, with the National Weather Service noting that a few storms could be strong to severe with a hail threat, particularly along and south of the I-20 corridor through early afternoon. The strongest activity looks most likely between now and 3 PM CT. If you’re heading to the Texas Rangers vs. New York Yankees game at Globe Life Field tonight, bring a packable rain jacket—the rain chance lingers into the evening, though the storms should weaken after sunset.

Skip the lawn mowing and outdoor projects today. Temperatures will actually fall from a morning high near 70°F down to around 68°F in the afternoon as rain moves through. It’s a cooler, wetter-than-average late April day.

Thursday & Friday: Major Rain Event Ahead

Here’s where things get serious. Showers and thunderstorms become likely Thursday (63% chance), and the National Weather Service is calling for widespread rain and thunderstorms Friday with 1 to 3 inches of rainfall expected. Some flash flooding is possible, especially in areas where rain rates could exceed 2 inches per hour. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk of excessive rainfall for the region.

Cancel outdoor plans Friday. Don’t plan to grill or visit parks like Klyde Warren Park or Fair Park. If you have weekend events—like the Dallas Stars vs. Wild playoff game at the American Airlines Center on Saturday, May 2nd—good news: conditions clear out by then, and you can grab Official team gear on Fanatics to support your Stars.

Weekend Outlook: Beautiful Recovery

Saturday and Sunday look dry and seasonably cooler, perfect for getting back outside. Temperatures settle in the mid-60s. If you’ve got concerts planned like Kid Rock at Dos Equis Pavilion on Friday, May 1st, check the forecast closer to that date—heavy rain is expected that evening, so grab tickets on SeatGeek and plan accordingly. For the BLAST Premier esports tournament at Dickies Arena also on Friday, the indoor venue keeps you dry regardless.

What to Wear & Prepare

Bring an umbrella and waterproof hiking boots if you’ll be out in the wet stuff today and tomorrow. A compact travel umbrella fits in your car or bag. Stock up on comfort-food essentials: rainy days are perfect for slow-cooker chili or beef stew. A programmable slow cooker lets you set it in the morning and come home to dinner ready. Pair it with an enameled cast iron Dutch oven for stovetop soups. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Stay weather-aware through Friday, DFW. This is a significant rain event—not severe, but wet and potentially flooding in spots.
