Chicago weather today brings a pleasant morning that’ll turn stormy by afternoon, with a high near 74°F and scattered showers and thunderstorms developing after 3 PM CT.

This morning started mild around 47°F with partly cloudy skies overnight, and we’re warming into the low 70s as we head toward midday. But here’s the catch: that southwest wind will kick up to 15–20 mph with gusts near 30 mph by afternoon, pushing a line of showers and thunderstorms into the city around 3 PM CT. The good news? Rainfall amounts look modest—less than a tenth of an inch—so we’re not looking at flooding concerns here in Chicago.

If you’re heading to Wrigley Field for the Cubs-Phillies matchup today, plan for dry conditions through the first few innings, but bring an umbrella or rain jacket for the later innings. Tailgating on Clark Street will be breezy and warm early, though you might want to secure any loose gear as those winds pick up. Check SeatGeek or StubHub for last-minute tickets if you’re thinking about catching the game.

Allergy Alert: With spring in full swing and that southwest wind pumping in moisture and pollen, today’s a rough one for allergy sufferers. Keep an allergy relief nasal spray handy, and if you’re sensitive, consider a pollen count face mask for outdoor activities. If you’re spending time indoors, an air quality monitor can help you track when pollen counts spike, and a HEPA air purifier will keep your home’s air clean while you recover from outdoor exposure.

Tonight into Wednesday: After 8 PM CT, that storm chance drops to just 20%, and we’ll see patchy fog develop, especially in low-lying areas around the lakefront and Lincoln Park. Temperatures dip to around 50°F with lighter northwest winds.

Wednesday looks much nicer—mostly sunny by midday with a high around 53°F. The Cubs have another game at Wrigley, and Wednesday should be perfect for baseball without the rain threat.

Thursday brings the White Sox home to Guaranteed Rate Field against the Nationals, and that looks dry as well.

Dinner Idea: With those afternoon storms rolling in, tonight’s a perfect night for a warm pasta or stir-fry—comfort food that doesn’t require firing up the grill. Did you know you can order groceries on Amazon? Get fresh pasta, vegetables, and sauce delivered straight to your door.

Looking ahead: This weekend shapes up nicely for outdoor plans around Chicago. Enjoy the next few days before the next system moves in.
