Beautiful Monday Afternoon Ahead – But Heat’s On the Way This Week

Hey neighbors! If you’re looking outside right now and thinking about getting outside this afternoon, you’ve got the green light. We’re sitting pretty with mostly sunny skies, temps climbing to 87°, and just a light 9 mph east breeze. Zero rain in the forecast. This is the time to grab those outdoor plans you’ve been putting off.

Today’s Perfect Window

This afternoon is ideal for just about anything: hit the golf course, fire up the grill, take the boat out on the bay, or just enjoy a walk around Clearwater or St. Pete. The light winds and dry conditions mean no afternoon thunderstorms—a nice break from our typical May-September pattern. If you’ve got yard work on your mind, this is your day. Mow while you can; the forecast stays dry all week, but the heat is building.

Tonight will be pleasant too—partly cloudy, dropping to around 63° with light breezes. Great sleeping weather if you like to crack the window.

The Heat Ramps Up

Here’s what the National Weather Service is tracking: a strong Atlantic ridge is settling in and will keep us bone dry through the weekend. That’s good news if you hate afternoon pop-ups, but it’s bad news for our ongoing drought. More importantly, temperatures are going to climb steadily.

Tuesday brings us to 89°. Wednesday hits 89° again. But by Friday, we’re looking at widespread 90s, and the weekend could see near-record heat in the low to mid 90s. That’s not typical for mid-April, folks.

The NWS also flags cautionary marine winds for the next couple days—easterly gusts up to 20 knots early in the week, then easing down to 5–10 knots by Wednesday. If you’re heading out on the water, keep an eye on those conditions.

Fire Weather & Drought Concerns

One thing worth noting: fire weather officials are concerned about critical humidity levels across inland areas and the Nature Coast from Wednesday through Friday. Combined with our ongoing drought, it’s a reminder to be extra careful with any outdoor burning or activities that could spark a fire. Conditions will be very dry.

Patchy fog is also possible late night and early morning, mainly across the Nature Coast, so take it easy if you’re driving through those areas before sunrise.

Looking Ahead

The next seven days? Dry, sunny, and progressively hotter. No rain in sight. If you need to water outdoor plants or have irrigation needs, keep that in mind. The ridge isn’t budging anytime soon.

So make the most of today’s comfortable conditions. Enjoy the 80s while they last—the heat train is pulling in, and it’s staying through the weekend. Stay hydrated out there, and I’ll keep you posted as we track that weekend warmth.

Stay safe and enjoy this beautiful Gulf Coast weather while it’s mild!
