Beautiful Monday Afternoon, But Severe Weather Brewing for Mid-Week

Today’s your day, folks. If you’ve been waiting for a chance to get outside and enjoy spring, this is it. We’re looking at partly sunny skies, a high near 85 degrees, and just an 11% chance of rain. That’s textbook early-season golf weather, and honestly, the perfect afternoon to fire up the grill or get some yard work done.

Make the Most of Today

The south wind will gust around 24 mph, so it’ll be a bit breezy, but nothing that should keep you indoors. This is an ideal time to knock out that lawn mowing you’ve been putting off—the ground should be dry, and you won’t be fighting heat or humidity. If golf is on your mind, conditions are excellent. The wind is manageable, visibility is great, and you’ve got plenty of daylight. A Golf GPS watch would be perfect for tracking your game on a day like this.

Tonight stays pleasant too—partly cloudy, a low around 69, and only a 13% chance of precipitation. Perfect for an evening on the patio with a grill going or relaxing in some comfortable patio furniture.

The Serious Part: Mid-Week Severe Weather

Now, let’s talk about what’s coming. Tuesday will be warm (near 90) with just a slight chance of showers in the early afternoon—nothing major. But Tuesday night into Wednesday is when things get interesting, and I want you prepared.

Our meteorologists at the National Weather Service are monitoring the potential for severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening. Large hail and damaging winds are the primary threats. A strong upper-level trough combined with abundant warmth, moisture, and instability will create an environment ripe for organized severe storms.

While a strong capping inversion may keep Tuesday’s storms at bay, that cap weakens significantly by Wednesday. This isn’t a time to brush off severe weather warnings. Make sure your phone alerts are on, know where your safe room is (interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows), and have a weather radio handy.

If you’re planning outdoor activities Wednesday, keep an eye on the forecast. If you’re a golfer and want to play, get out early in the day before storms develop. Consider having a golf rain suit on hand just in case.

Looking Ahead

A potent cold front will move through late this week, bringing an end to this unseasonable warmth and another round of strong to severe thunderstorm potential. After that system clears, we’ll settle into more typical mid-April weather.

Enjoy today fully—it’s a gift. But stay weather-aware starting Tuesday night. This is St. Louis in spring, and we know how quickly things can change.

Stay safe, and I’ll have more updates as we get closer to Wednesday.
