Sacramento is heading into a gorgeous Memorial Day weekend Sunday, with temperatures climbing to near 84°F under mostly sunny skies — but gusty winds and low humidity are raising Elevated Fire Weather conditions across the Valley, so keep that in mind wherever your plans take you.
Today’s Setup
After a partly cloudy overnight low near 52°F, Sunday delivers mostly sunny skies and a high near 84°F. South-southwest winds of 2 to 12 mph will kick up through the afternoon, with gusts to 20 mph. The National Weather Service Sacramento office warns that those gusts combined with daytime relative humidity dropping into the upper teens to 20s create Elevated Fire Weather conditions in the Valley. If you’re grilling at Discovery Park or hanging at the American River Parkway, keep all flames under control and never leave them unattended.
Best Window To Be Outside
Morning is golden. Get your run along the Sacramento Riverwalk or a round at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in before noon — winds are lightest then. A UV protection sun hat is a smart call under these clear skies. By mid-afternoon, gusts will be at their strongest. Memorial Day Monday looks just as sunny with a high near 81°F, but the NWS notes winds could gust 25 to 35 mph — making fire weather conditions even more elevated, especially through Tuesday and Wednesday.
Allergy Alert
Breezy, warm, and sunny conditions in the Central Valley mean pollen is moving. If you’re sensitive, load up before heading out: an allergy relief nasal spray before outdoor activities can prevent miserable sneezing, and eye drops for allergy itch relief are worth keeping in your pocket when those gusts kick up. For yard work or extended time outside, a pollen count face mask is a real help. Back home, running a HEPA air purifier keeps your indoor air clean after a day in the breeze.
Fire Weather Risk
This is the weekend’s main concern. Elevated Fire Weather conditions are forecast for the Sacramento Valley through Monday due to southwest winds and low humidity, then again Tuesday–Wednesday from gusty north winds. No burn permits, careful grilling, and a bucket of water nearby — that’s the weekend rule.
A’s vs. Yankees — May 29 at Sutter Health Park
Looking ahead, the Athletics host the New York Yankees on May 29 at Sutter Health Park. The cooling trend underway should make it a comfortable evening for baseball. Grab Official team gear on Fanatics to rep the home team, and lock in your seats now — Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub before they’re gone. Pack a Yeti hopper soft cooler for tailgating in the lot before first pitch.
